20 DIY Kitchen Organization Ideas You Can Do This Weekend

I love seeing my kitchen spotless and organized. It just puts me in a good mood. But one minute, everything looks neat, and the next minute, drawers are messy, counters are crowded, and I am wondering how it got this way so quickly. I cook almost every day, so I know how easy it is for things to get out of hand without even trying.

That is why I really like simple DIY kitchen organization ideas. Nothing fancy or expensive. Just small things you can do over a weekend that actually make a difference. Little changes that help you find what you need faster and enjoy your space more without turning it into a big, stressful project.

1. Custom drawer organizer

This is one of those small changes that makes a big difference. Making a simple drawer organizer helped so much. I used small pieces of wood to divide the drawer into sections that actually fit my utensils. Now everything has its own spot, and I do not need to dig around anymore.

2. Ziploc bag organizer

Ziploc bags can get out of control very fast. I had boxes stacked on top of each other, and it never looked nice. I made a simple organizer using cardboard and a little tape. Each bag size has its own section. It fits neatly inside a cabinet, and I can grab what I need without pulling everything out.

3. Coffee pod drawer organizer

If you love coffee, you know how messy coffee pods can be. I made a small drawer insert just for them. Nothing complicated. Just a shallow tray with sections. Now I can see all my pods at once, and the drawer does not feel cluttered.

4. Pull out the cabinet tray

Lower cabinets used to frustrate me. Things always got lost at the back. Adding a pull-out tray changed everything. I installed a simple sliding tray, and now I can pull everything forward and see what I have. I use mine for pots and heavy bowls. It makes cooking easier and saves my back, too.

5. Tiered countertop organizer

Countertops can get crowded very quickly. I made a small tiered organizer using wood pieces. I use it for spices and oils I reach for often. It keeps things visible but still tidy. The counter feels more open, and it looks neat without trying too hard.

6. DIY spice rack

This was such a satisfying project. I built a simple wall spice rack with thin wood shelves. Before this, my spices were scattered everywhere. Now they are all in one place and easy to grab. Cooking feels faster, and the kitchen looks more put-together.

7. Mug storage rack

Mugs take up so much cabinet space. I added hooks under one cabinet and hung my mugs there. It was very easy to do. Now I have more shelf space, and the mugs look nice displayed.

8. Vegetable storage bin with dividers

I like keeping onions and potatoes out of the fridge, but they used to sit in random bowls. I built a simple wooden bin with sections. Each vegetable has its own space. It keeps things organized and makes the kitchen feel more intentional.

9. Pegboard wall organizer

A pegboard is one of the most flexible storage ideas. I mounted one on an empty wall and hung utensils, pans, and small baskets. I like that I can move things around whenever I want. It grows with my needs and keeps cabinets from feeling overcrowded.

10. Canned food organizer

Cans tend to disappear in deep cabinets. I made a tiered organizer so I can see all the labels. It helps me know what I already have and stops me from buying duplicates. Everything feels easier and more organized.

11. Wall knife rack

I used a magnetic strip mounted on the wall for my knives, and it completely changed the way I use my kitchen. Before, knives were always jumbled in a drawer, and I never knew which one I was grabbing until I pulled it out. Now, every knife has its place, and I can see them all at a glance.

12. Plate rack inside cabinet

Stacking plates has always been tricky, especially when the bottom ones get stuck or the pile topples over. I built a simple plate rack inside a cabinet so the plates stand upright instead of being stacked. It keeps them easy to grab and puts less pressure on the bottom plate, so nothing chips. I also like that it makes the cabinet look orderly and clean.

13. DIY kitchen storage boxes

I love having storage boxes for pantry items because it keeps everything grouped together and looks tidy. I made a few simple wooden boxes for snacks, pasta, and baking ingredients. Now, instead of having random bags and containers, everything has a home. It also makes it easier to take out just what I need without making a mess.

14. Magnetic spice jars

This was a fun weekend project that also makes my kitchen feel really put together. I attached small magnets to the back of spice jars and stuck them on a metal board on the wall. Before, my spices were scattered in cabinets, and it always took longer to find the one I wanted. Now, everything is visible, easy to grab, and stays in place.

15. Clear knife block

I made a simple knife block from clear acrylic, and it has been one of the best additions to my countertop. I can see all the knives at once, and each one has its own spot. It keeps them organized, safe, and accessible, and I also like that it’s easy to clean and doesn’t trap crumbs or dust like wooden blocks sometimes do.

16. Over the sink dish rack

Counter space is precious, especially in a smaller kitchen, and I built a rack that sits above the sink, so dishes dry there instead of taking up space on the counter. It fits perfectly and makes washing and putting away dishes smoother. I like that water drips directly into the sink, so I do not have to wipe down the counter constantly.

17. DIY paper towel holder

I got tired of paper towel holders that slide all over the counter or don’t look nice, so I made my own. Using a simple piece of wood and a dowel, I built one that stays put and looks clean. I keep it near the sink, so it’s easy to grab a towel when needed. It sounds small, but it actually makes a difference every day.

18. Pull out rack for trays and boards

Baking trays and cutting boards are always awkward to store because they slide around in deep cabinets. I made a pull-out rack just for them, and it’s so much easier to grab the one I need without disturbing everything else. I can slide the whole thing out and see all the trays at once. It keeps the cabinet organized, quiet, and safe from scratches or dents.

19. Drawer and shelf liners

Custom liners might seem like a small detail, but they make a big difference. I cut liners for my drawers and shelves, using materials that are easy to wipe down. They protect surfaces, keep items from sliding, and make cleaning a lot easier. I even added liners to cabinets with plates and bowls, so everything feels stable when I pull things out.

20. Grocery bag dispenser

Plastic bags always ended up in a jumble in my kitchen, and I got tired of digging through them. I repurposed an old container into a simple bag dispenser. Now bags stay in one place, and I can pull one out quickly without making a mess. It’s a small solution, but it saves time and keeps the area near the trash and recycling tidy.

Wrapping up

These little DIY projects show that organizing your kitchen doesn’t have to be hard or expensive. A few simple changes over a weekend can make your space feel calmer, easier to use, and just more enjoyable every day.
